SMART-L EWC has been purposely designed to perform BMD search and track tasks in four dimensions (elevation, bearing, range and velocity) without detriment to its AAW function. So as well as providing initial BMD detection, tracking, trajectory prediction, impact point and launch point estimation, and cueing for a fire control weapon and/or missile interceptor, the system also retains all AAW performance in its standard rotating mode. Furthermore, SMART-L EWC offers a flexible BMD search strategy in order that it can be applied both in forward and rearward roles by selecting the appropriate search beam.
