India's Pipavav Shipyard has signed an agreement with Northrop Grumman to explore areas of potential collaboration in developing defence electronics, including radars and navigation and communications systems. The memorandum of understanding (Moll), which was signed on 10 February, covers the "exchange of programmatic and planning information in accordance with the export laws of the governments of India and the United States", said Raj Kumar Sharma, India Country Manager for Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. The agreement in effect acts as an offset arrangement under which Northrop Grumman is able to discharge offset.
