German submarine builder How-aldtswerke Deutsche Werft (HDW), part of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), has pulled out of a contract to support Hellenic Shipyards (HSY) in the construction of two new Type 214 submarines and the upgrade of an existing Type 209 boat for the Hellenic Navy. HDW's representation in Athens informed the Hellenic Ministry of Defence on 17 May of the company's decision to terminate its subcontract with HSY.
