Rival shipyards on Canada's Atlantic and Pacific coasts will on 7 July submit their bids to take the lion's share of a future naval and coast guard construction programme estimated to be worth up to CAD35 billion (USD36 billion) in the coming years. Vancouver's Seaspan Operations, New Brunswick's Irving Shipbuilding, Quebec's Davie Yards and Ontario's Seaway Marine & Industrial are expected to submit their proposals for a programme that could eventually total more than 30 new ships, ranging from frigates and supply ships to patrol boats and icebreakers.
