Experience from the MILGEM programme is already helping to shape SSM's thinking with regard to the acquisition strategy for the next-generation TF-2000 anti-air warfare frigate. A total of four TF-2000 vessels are planned to enter service with the Turkish Naval Forces from around the end of the decade; the locally built design, expected to displace more than 6,000 tons, will have a strong anti-air warfare bias centred on a multifunction phased-array radar and a medium-range area air defence missile system. SSM's Naval Systems department concluded the TF-2000 project feasibility study phase in mid-2010. The department's report - supported by a global market survey, responses to a request for information for specific subsystems, and R&D proposals developed by local industry - is being evaluated by the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the General Staff pending a decision on the next stage of the programme.
