German yacht and naval surface ships group Liirssen has made an unsolicited bid for the Blohm + Voss (B+V) shipyards owned by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The terms of Lurssen's bid were not disclosed, although the company confirmed on 18 September that it aims to purchase B+V's naval construction and repair assets. TKMS said in July this year that it was seeking a buyer for the B+V commercial interests after plans for a sale to Abu Dhabi MAR (ADM) floundered. Talks between TKMS and an unnamed European private equity firm regarding a commercial shipbuilding sale were reported to have taken place.It remains unclear whether TKMS will countenance the sale of its B+V naval interests, given that the conglomerate said earlier this year that while it sought a sale of commercial shipbuilding it was to "concentrate in the future on military shipbuilding".In a statement released to the media on 15 September, TKMS ac knowledged receipt of the Lurssen bid but stressed that the companies had not entered takeover talks.
