India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has cleared the formation of a joint venture (JV) between state-owned Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) and private entity Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company formerly known as Pipavav Shipyard.The establishment of the JV was put on hold by the MoD in late September following complaints by a section of the private shipbuilding sector in India who said the proposed partnership agreement lacked transparency.However, an executive from Pipavav told Jane's on 10 October that the MoD has now given the go ahead for the JV to be established.
