Vietnam has taken the wraps off two indigenously built naval platforms -one a 71 m troop transport ship, the other a 54 m patrol vessel with strong Russian influences.The troop ship Truong Sa (HQ-571) - which is thought to be the largest vessel designed and built in Vietnam - was launched in Hai Phong's Z189 shipyard on 5 October, the Ministry of National Defence (MND) said.Local reports said the Project TT400TP patrol vessel (HQ-272) was unveiled a week earlier during a ceremony at the Hong Ha Shipbuilding Company (Z173) shipyard, also in Hai Phong. Russia appears to have provided the armament and sensor systems in the patrol vessel, and possibly the basis for the ship design too.
