Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) -which is building India's Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) - is looking to establish a second construction/repair yard in the southwestern state of Kerala, the government-owned company announced on 5 November. Officials are conducting a feasibility study into a possible new facility in one of three locations: Azhikkal in the north of the state, or Poovar or Vizhinjam to the south. The study should be completed by the end of this month, the company said. In September CSL opened a bollard pull test facility at Vizhinjam with a safe working load of 500 tons; the company is also seeking to partner a privately owned domestic shipbuilder under a government drive to establish public-private partnerships in the naval industrial sector.
