France's Direction Generate de l'Armement (DGA) is embarking on design options studies in a bid to acquire a new class of multirole auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) vessel for the French Navy.rnAs well as providing liquid and solid stores, the ships will host command, repair and medical facilities. Project officials have confirmed that ship design and build will be opened to international competition in an effort to achieve best value for money.rnThe French Ministry of Defence announced plans for the new double-hull AORs in October 2009, with current plans calling for the construction of four ships as one-for-one replacements for the four remaining Durance-class single-hull AORs. Delivery is targeted for 2017-2020.
