The Soteria Consortium - comprising Canadian Helicopter Corp, Tha-les, Sikorsky and the Royal Bank of Scotland and offering the Sikorsky S-92A - has been declared preferred bidder in the UK's Search and Rescue Helicopter (SAR-H) competition. Announcing the selection on 9 February, Minister for Defence Equipment and Support Quentin Da-vies said that detailed negotiations would now begin with the consortium with a view to agreeing a contract for the private finance initiative (PFI)-based programme by the end of the year. The contract is stated as being worth GBP6 billion (USD9 billion) over its 25-year duration.
