As the US Navy pursues plans for a 'winner takes all' competition for a single Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) design, a three-way race has developed to supply the volume search radar system that will equip at least the next 15 LCS series production units. In contention are the EADS Defence Electronics TRS-3D (being offered in conjunction with Lockheed Martin); Saab Microwave Systems' Sea Giraffe AMB (being offered into the US through Sensis); and Thales Ned-erland's SMART-S Mk 2 (being bid through ITT Radar Systems-Gilfillan).
