With its hopes of establishing a 313-ship battle force dashed by Pentago spending plans, the US Navy has turned its attention to the procurement Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, Littoral Combat Ships, small intra-theatre transports and attack submarines.rnIn its Fiscal Year 2011 (FY11) budget the US Navy has traded ambitious aspirations for its future fleet for a far more cost-conscious and pragmatic approach to warship procurement.rnSome technologically advanced concepts have been scrapped in favour of developing legacy platforms, while the emphasis on large surface ships is making way for agile - and cheaper - green water combatants.
