The acquisition of three new mine-hunters under the MCMV 2010 programme is the Finnish Navy's most important initiative. Flooding at shipbuilder Intermarine's yard in Italy has caused some disruption to the project, but overall it remains on course to deliver a first operational ship within three years, according to Vice Admiral Juha Rannikko, the navy's senior officer.rnThe MCMV 2010 design is derived from Thailand's Lat Ya class, but with an ice-capable hull and state-of-the-art mine-counter-measures equipment.
