摘要

Almost 30 years after the Rolling Airframe Missile entered co-operative development, the US/German partnership responsible for its design and production has embarked on a substantial performance upgrade designed to keep the system ahead of the evolving threat. Richard Scott reports In 1999 the US Navy (USN) released a series of spectacular images showing the performance of the Block 1 variant of the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) against a series of live and surrogate anti-ship missiles. Its evaluation of the system was, at that time, considered to be the most operationally realistic, stressful and successful testing ever of a USN air-defence missile.
