Aluminium shipbuilding specialist Austal has released design specifications for the six fast patrol craft it will build for the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard. Powered by two MTU 16-cylinder 2000 M92-series diesel engines driving a Kamewa waterjet, the 30 m-long patrol craft will have a maximum speed of 40 kt and a range of more than 1,000 n miles at 10 kt. Other dimensions include a beam of 6.4 m and a hull draft of approximately 1.5 m. Each vessel will be armed with three general-purpose machine guns and a single 20 mm cannon, and crewed by 12 sailors. Austal announced on 22 April that "additional contracts for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and crew training services" will come into force following delivery of the vessels. The maintenance contracts are worth approximately TTD78.1 million (USD12.4 million).
