Sweden's naval chief has spelled out his ambitions for the future fleet as the government weighs its priorities for the forthcoming 2021-2025 defence bill. Speaking at the UDT Europe conference in Stockholm on 13 May, Rear Admiral Jens Nykvist, chief of navy, said he wanted to see the Royal Swedish Navy's submarine force grow from four boats to six. He also outlined plans for a second-generation Visby-class corvette, and restated the need to equip the five current Visby-class corvettes with a surface-to-air missile system.
