The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is undergoing a major fleet recapitalisation designed to augment high-end operational capability to counter growing threats across the Indo-Pacific region. In platform terms, this capability will include two Canberra-class landing helicopter dock (LHD) amphibious assault ships, three Aegis-fitted air warfare-focused Hobart-class guided-missile destroyers (DDGs), nine Hunter-class anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates, and 12 Attack-class diesel-electric submarines (SSKs). Both LHDs and two DDGs are operational. The Hunter-class frigates will enter service from the late 2020s, while the first Attack-class SSK is due in the 2032-33 timeframe.
