Thales UK has won out in the race to replace the command information facilities fitted to the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) mine countermeasures (MCM) fleet, beating off competition from incumbent BAE Systems and a QinetiQ/Saab team. Under the Oceanographic Reconnaissance Combat Architecture (ORCA) project, the company will integrate its M-Cube MCM command-and-control system on the RN's Hunt-class and Sandown-class vessels to replace its existing NAUTIS systems. The full ORCA scope of supply also includes training and the provision of a land-based reference system.
