No US Navy (USN) plan creates greater consternation than a proposal to cut its fleet of aircraft carriers, and previous attempts have been met with immediate and effective pushback. The reaction to the USN's recent proposal to eliminate the refuelling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75) and retire the ship early indicates that this latest reiteration to cut a carrier - as well as long-term shipbuilding plans to reduce the fleet from nine to 12 - is similarly doomed.
