On 30 August, the UK Royal Navy (RN) aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth sailed from Portsmouth to begin a 14-week deployment to the east coast of the United States known as 'WESTLANT 19'. Accompanied by the RN's Type 45 destroyer HMS Dragon, Type 23 frigate HMS Northumberland, and Tide-class tanker RFA Tideforce, the carrier strike group (CSG) will be joined by ships and air assets from other countries at various times. Lima Company, 42 Command Royal Marines, and a Role 2 Medical Team afloat are also embarked on the carrier.
