In the aftermath of the 2016 Farsi Island incident in the Gulf, when two US Navy (USN) Coastal Riverine Force (CRF) patrol craft with 10 sailors were captured by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy units, the US Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) has put its forces on a high-readiness war footing. Speaking to Jane's, NECC's commander, Rear Admiral Brian Brakke, said the Pentagon blamed a lack of preparation for the incident. Since then, the NECC has changed from "a culture of compliance to a culture of excellence", he said. "We have taken a force and co-ordinated it to fight as part of a task force capability."
