The US Navy (USN) awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a USD9.5 billion cost-plus-incentive-fee contract modification on 5 November to exercise an option to build and test the first and second Columbia-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). The contract modification also covers associated design and engineering support, and supports the fiscal year 2021 (FY 2021) construction start of first-of-class Columbia (SSBN 826), and advance procurement, advance construction, co-ordinated material buys, and full construction of second-in-class Wisconsin (SSBN 827) in FY 2024.
