In this paper, we describe a new physical construction method to assign preformatted information on the guide layer of a super-multilayer disc. A minimum unit of the physical construction consists of "basic mark" and "center track mark". The basic mark consists of plural wobbled grooves and the center track mark is introduced to identify the center track of the basic mark. We designed a new physical format of the guide layer allocating those marks and experimentally confirmed the bit error rate below 1 × 10~(-4) and the defocus margin around 3μm, which satisfy requirements for realizing an optical disc system.
