A new nonchalcogenide inorganic blue laser recordable disk was successfully developed using a Pd-based metallic glass, which transformed from the amorphous state to the crystalline state upon laser irradiation. The optical properties and thermal properties of the Pd-based metallic glass thin film were studied. A recordable optical disk was prepared with a simple disk structure, which included only a dielectric layer and a recording layer, for an optical system based on a blue-violet laser diode and an objective lens with a high numerical number (NA) of objective lens of 0.85. The recording performance of the blue laser recordable disk was evaluated. The readout stability and archival lifetime were verified for the blue laser recordable disk.
