摘要

Japan is facing a decreasing birth rate and aging population. Particularly in local areas, even the working-age population is expected to rapidly decrease. It is expected that the decrease of population will significantly affect conditions on which towns are established. Also it is expected that areas in which it is difficult to sustainably operate public transportation systems will become obvious. Against such a background, the Mobility Innovation Consortium that is established by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) conducted a technology demonstration of autonomous operation for buses in a dedicated road for BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) as a solution. This article describes the demonstration experiment.
