Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) started construction in May 2012 to enhance the functions of the earthquake disaster prevention system of the Tokaido Shinkansen. It has completed installing the functions of urgent response to linked earthquakes. The upgraded system was put into service from February 22, 2013. The construction to enhance the functions of the system was carried out based on knowledge obtained from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The objective is to issue emergency stop command to trains early and reliably.
