JFE Steel and JFE Chemical developed a new soft magnetic material, ultra fine pure iron (UFPI) powder with an average particle size of approximately 1 mu m, which is smaller than that of the carbonyl iron power used in inductors for high frequency power supplies and similar devices1'. UPIF powder can be handled in the air in spite of its ultrafine particle size, because each of the particles is covered with a stable oxidized layer on its surface.
