This is an odd book. In many ways, Boundless Faith builds ably uponnRobert Wuthnow’s long series of readable works on the sociology of Americannreligion, and like its predecessors, it offers an abundance of interesting andnhighly relevant material, soundly based both on quantitative evidence and onnextensive interviews. His basic point is well taken, and probably unchallenge-nable: American churches of all shades retain and cultivate a worldwide vision,nwhich is powerfully augmented by globalization. Like his earlier works,nBoundless Faith can be recommended without hesitation. At the same time,nhough, Wuthnow frames his argument as if it represents a gallant attempt tonoverthrow some rival scholarly paradigm that, as far as I can see, scarcelynexists. He is at daggers drawn with an army of straw men.
