摘要

The category “religion” is a tripartite, emergent from Christianntheology during modernity, as Christianity increased, transcended, nand diminished, and persistent in contemporary religious studies andnChristian theology. With the postmodern and postcolonial “return ofnreligion”: the tripartite category is located as a product of Eurocentricnmodern Christianity; Christianity is positioned as one religion amongnothers; and religious studies engages religious traditions, includingnChristianity, in their particularities, rather than in terms of overarch-ning (modernist) categories. Within Christian theology, whilenChristianity transcended persists in (pluralist) liberal theologies, nreligion is repudiated and (particularist) Christianity re-centered in itsnneo-orthodox strands. While the Eurocentic entwining of Christianitynwith western modernity unravels, Christianity re-centered looks to anTrinitarian core, differently appropriated in the diverse locationsnconstituting World Christianity. The recent particularist focus of bothnreligious studies and Christian theology opens a path toward greaterncooperation between the two disciplines, beyond tensions arising fromnthe Christian-infused tripartite.
