Project Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) was conceived by Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, for demonstration of autonomous flight of scramjet integrated Cruise Vehicle (CV). The CV, protected with aerodynamic fairings, is mounted atop a booster motor called the Launch Vehicle (LV). When the LV reaches the desired altitude of 30-31 km and Mach 6, the fairings are separated and the CV is ejected. Thereafter, auto-ignition of scramjet engine takes place and CV cruises for 20 seconds.
