The impact of a utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) installation on downwind PM_(2.5) and PM_(10) concentrations based on readings collected from four beta attenuation monitor (BAM) over 3-yr at a 550-MW_(AC) plant in Riverside Country, California was evaluated. The post-construction downwind PM_(2.5) and PM_(10) concentrations are lower than the background concentrations for readings collected from three of the four BAM. The reductions in the PM concentrations in the three BAM stations were observed within 10-mo of completion of construction; therefore, the need for post-construction monitoring of downwind PM levels may be reduced from 3-yr to 1-yr for deployments in locations with topographical and weather conditions similar to Riverside County, California.
