Abstract This paper summarises 1.why the Government of Nunavut used a public-private partnership (P3) model to modernise a key piece of strategic infrastructure; 2.why a Canadian Tier I airport would join a consortium to design, build, finance, operate and maintain an airport in the Canadian Arctic for more than 30 years; 3.why this consortium won the contract; 4.what challenges are presented working in a remote location; 5.what innovations were implemented; and 6.what lessons were learned for application elsewhere. remote airport operations, public—private partnership, P3 infrastructure project.
