摘要

The March 2016 attack on Brussels Airport once again highlighted the need for ongoing vigilance in airport security. While the vital importance of airport security is clear, however, what is not quite so clear is what airports should actually do about it at the practical level. The key question is: How can airports be secured cost-effectively without fundamentally undermining customer service or by using techniques that are politically unacceptable? Israel's airports are renowned for their security, but to what extent can techniques used at Ben Gurion Airport, with 15 million passengers per year, be applied to airports like Tokyo Haneda, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International or Dubai International with more than 75 million? Can they be affordable at that scale and are their techniques even transferable to other countries?
