Within the framework of linear stability theory the temperature as well as the pressure dependence of the physical properties ρ~* (density), μ~* (viscosity), k~* (thermal conductivity) and c_p~* (heat capacity) are accounted for in a systematic manner based on Taylor series expansions of all these properties. An extended version of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation (including variable properties) is subject to a regular perturbation expansion with respect to two perturbation parameters which follow from the expansion of the properties as will be demonstrated hereafter.
