A study of phase and losses in ferrites by the magnetomicrowave Kerr effect

The magnetomicrowave Kerr effect has been studied in polycrystalline samples of ferrite having various compositions and two different crystallographic structures, at 9.442 GHz in terms of R, the amplitude ratio of two orthogonal components of the elliptically polarized reflected wave from the magnetized sample, and δ, the phase difference between them. This paper reports for the first time the study of a phase parameter in ferrites. A new method has been suggested for the determination of the phase constant of the bridge. The value of the effective linewidth has been obtained both from R‐H and δ‐H curves. It has been found that the values of the effective line‐ width obtained from δ‐H curves are in agreement with the values estimated from R‐H curves. This suggests that the measurement of δ can also facilitate the determination of the effective line‐ width.
