We have investigated the magnetic domain behavior during the hcp‐to‐fcc phase transition in cobalt using electron microscopy. From single‐crystal and polycrystalline samples it has been observed that defects, such as stacking faults and grain boundaries, will aid the transformation of the domain structure between the two phases. From the domain pattern we have also made estimates of the domain wall energy γ and exchange constant A in both the hcp and fcc phases. These values are compared with the results from other experiments.
