Rapport Building in Farm Management Consultancy: A Case Study

摘要

This paper proposes a conceptual framework of the rapport building process used in farm management consultancy. The main components of rapport, that is affinity, trust and understanding, are defined. Rapport is seen as a product of a relationship built up through interpersonal communication between a sender and a receiver of messages. When developing rapport, consultants must consider their roles as both 'senders' and 'receivers'. For each of the roles, the vocal and non-vocal aspects of behaviour that a consultant should exhibit in order to communicate effectively are identified. The importance of such behavioural factors has been confirmed by a study of the practices of an experienced farm management consultant.
