Why, you ask, should anyone today care about such an ancient and relatively short-lived story? Did this council really do something, or was it mere public relations window dressing? Kansas State University's Benjamin makes clear in this archive-based study that the NBC Advisory Council represented the political and cultural establishment of its era, and that in its initial years not only helped to define NBC's public service programming, but also developed a conception of how radio should and could serve the public interest.
