In building-related surveying, it cannot be long before the work relates in some part to a protected heritage building or site. This may be from working upon a listed building, or within a scheduled monument or perhaps surveying inside a conservation area. One constant for decades in English conservation work has been English Heritage who policed the statutes, guided best practice, and controlled activity and planning decisions related to working with heritage assets. From 1st April, 2015 English Heritage, or at least half of it, became known as Historic England. 'The government has confirmed that its heritage advisor, English Heritage, will be split into two separate organisations, with a new body, Historic England, taking on planning and heritage protection responsibilities.'
