The latest Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM 2015) came into force in Great Britain on 6th April, 2015. They will be fully implemented, replacing the terms of the previous 2007 regulations, for any notifiable construction project which is planned to extend beyond 6th October, 2015. The stated aims of CDM 2015 are to: (1) improve health and safety in the construction industry, by managing and removing risks; (2) be involved in undertaking health and safety in construction through rigorous planning from start to finish; (3) ensure competency so that the right people are doing the right job at the right time; (4) develop a culture of cooperation and coordination of effort between the different parties working on a construction project; (5) ensure effective dissemination of appropriate information about the risks and how they are to be managed, through enhanced communication, so that health and safety information gets to all those who need to know; (6) consult and engage with workers about the risks and how they are being managed; (7) structural simplification of the regulations to make them easier to understand.
