摘要

This book adds to a growing literature on nationalism in the People's Republic. Simon Shen holds that Chinese nationalism should be understood as an expression not just of relations between China and the outside world, but also of relations among three domestic groups: political leaders, intellectuals, and the public. He argues that when members of these groups critique American actions, they aim their criticisms as much at each other as at the U.S. Thus Chinese nationalism is a battleground on which domestic groups argue over how China should present itself to the world.
