The aim of the book is to test how the Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR) could be applied to different national legal systems. The introduction, which is co-written by the editors, pursues a twofold objective: to introduce the history and the scope of the DCFR as well as the method which is applied in the case studies. Case studies encompass unfair terms, change of circumstances, plurality of debtors, sales, lease of goods, mandate, personal security, non-contractual liability arising out of damage caused to another, unjustified enrichment, acquisition, and loss of ownership of goods. The structure is always the same. Three cases are presented and then discussed in the light of the rules of the DCFR. The article concludes with two critical essays on the three lives of European Private Law by Ch. Schmid, and on Social Contracts by L. Nogler and U. Reifner.
