The author looks into the legal relationship between free trade, environmental, and consumer protection within the WTO regime. He focuses on a rarely discussed issue, namely on Domestically Prohibited Goods (DPGs). DPGs are goods that are prohibited on the domestic market where they are produced. Examples are pesticides, industrial chemicals, and toxic waste. Typically, such goods are prohibited in most industrial countries, but are permitted for trade in most developing countries. The book critically discusses the controversies of DPGs in the context of the WTO regime.
