I read Dury et al. (1998) with great interest. They investigated the dependence of hydraulic properties of an unsaturated sand on the aqueous concentration of dissolved Butanol through its effect on surface tension and viscosity. The scaling relationships used in their work require surface tension and kinematic viscosity data for aqueous solutions of Butanol at differing concentrations. Errors in fitting functions to the Butanol aqueous solution data in their manuscript need to be addressed in the interest of accuracy and to avoid misleading readers into thinking that the specified functions cannot be used to accurately fit the data.
