In his fascinating study Christoph H. Miiller traces and discusses West German Anti-Americanism and arrives at a number of persuasive conclusions. Large conservative and nationalist sections of the West German society were not only highly critical of everything 'American' but they also used this label to stem the tide of modernisation. Miiller successfully shows that proponents of these opinions were not marginalised eccentrics at the fringes of society but mainstream commentators with a significant following.
