摘要

In this paper, we report a novel microstructure, periodic diphase dendrite in Al-35% La binary alloy. The alloy had dendrite-like morphology and the dendritic microstructure was discontinuous and alternately composed of α-Al and Al_(11)La_(3-) Observations on random region of any section and a successive section observation proved that the periodic diphase dendrite structure was not a section plan crossed over some branches of tree-like structure. The distribution of chemical compositions and geometric dimensions of this structure were also characterized. The formation mechanism of periodic diphase dendrite was discussed and experimental results and theoretical analysis indicate that the formation of periodic diphase dendrite microstructure was induced by convection.
