This book is a latecomer to the canon of Keynesian revivalism in the wake of the Great Financial Crisis. It is unlikely to find favor with purists. Fiscal Keynesians, those who see him as a modern monetary theorist, and those focused on his vision of uncertainty in a nonergodic world should be warned: these themes have small roles here. Instead, Peter Temin and David Vines choose to begin with John Maynard Keynes of The Economic Consequences of the Peace, and to dwell on the MacMillan Committee of 1930, whose charge was the global financial crisis of that moment, and before which Keynes testified for five days in a struggle with Montagu Norman of the Bank of England and Richard Hopkins of His Majesty's Treasury. They move on to the war and to Bretton Woods, to the founding of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. They are concerned with Keynes the international economist, hence with "useful economics for the world."
