摘要

How important are genetically transmitted traits and childhood environmental influences in shaping long-run outcomes? This is undoubtedly one of the fundamental social science questions over the last century. Indeed, the Victorian era social scientist Sir Francis Galton was inspired by precisely such questions to develop statistical tools like regression analysis which have formed the building blocks of empirical methods used today by economists and other social scientists. In this ambitious volume Michael Beenstock attempts to provide an account of how behavioral genetics, psychology, economics, sociology, and molecular genetics have addressed the thorny questions around nature and nurture from both an empirical and theoretical point of view.
