摘要

Contemporary political economy has emerged as one of the most active areas of research in the last two decades. Indeed, students of political economy have invested substantial time and effort toward answering the following questions that addresses policy outcomes in modern societies: how do political institutions affect economic growth, what determines the size and form of redistributive programs, and, what influences the extent of trade protection and monetary policy choice during the course of electoral cycles? As suggested by these questions, research in political economy primarily focuses on how political institutions affect long-run economic processes and outcomes.
